    • Philadelphia Inquirer, 7 Mar 1919: Death Overtakes Founder of Bailey, Banks & Biddle Company

      Samuel Biddle, a member of the Bailey, Banks & Biddle Company, died Tuesday at his home, Forty-seventh street and City avenue, Bala. He was seventy-four years old. He was a direct descendant of Owen Biddle, a conspicuous figure in Philadelphia affairs in revolutionary days.

      Mr. Biddle began his business career here by purchasing the business of Thomas C. Garrett, a silversmith. He then formed the firm of Clark & Biddle and subsequently became a member of the firm of Bailey, Banks & Biddle, a house established by Joseph Howbridge Bailey, in 1832.

      Retiring about twenty-five years ago, Mr. Biddle became president of the German-American Trust Company, at Broad and Arch streets. Several years ago he retired from this position.

      Mr. Biddle is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Samuel R. Carter, Miss Mary H. Biddle and Miss Helen R. Biddle.
