- Richard C. "Dick" Hurley, 77 of 11 E. Augusta Place, Apt. 231, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003.
Born in Ridley Park, Pa., he was a son of the late Wilson F. and Helen M. Singles Hurley, and was the husband of Mary Nell Henderson Hurley.
He was a graduate of Greenville High School, Class of 1943, and attended Clemson University. He was a veteran of the USNAF, World War II, and of the USAFSS, during the Korean Conflict. He attended the US Intelligence School, Obergannergau, Germany, and was a Russian Language Technician.
His career included employment with Hurley & Harrison Inc., Greenville, and Sonoco Products Co., Hartsville, before forming his own company, The Hurley Associates. Mr. Hurley was instrumental in establishing the Italian Company, Mariplast, NA, Inc. in Greenville before his retirement in 1996.
Surviving are daughters, Susan E. Hurley, of Newberry, Mrs. Preston (Laura) Dawkins, of Hartsville, and Mrs. Jeff (Kate) Roberson, of Concord, N.C.; sons, Daniel "Dan" C. Hurley, of Youngsville, N.C., and Wilson "Wil" F. Hurley II, of Lexington; a sister, Nancy Moore, of Greenville; stepchildren, Mr. J. Christopher Henderson, of Columbia, and Mrs. Mickey H. Smith, of Greenville; thirteen grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Richard "Chip" C. Hurley Jr.; and a sister, Mrs. Frances H. Chapman.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at noon in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11 to 11:50 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
