- Ruth "Pat" Clarke Sharp, 100
NORTH YARMOUTH - Ruth "Pat" Clarke Sharp passed away Feb. 24, 2017, in Arizona, while visiting her son Jonathan and his wife Belinda.
Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, C.C. (Budd) Sharp, and a daughter, Priscilla Ann Sharp.
Born Dec. 12, 1916, in Fairfield, Conn., Ruth was the youngest of five children born to Mathew and Martha (Drew) Clarke. She attended Fairfield, Conn., public schools, graduating from Roger Ludlow High School. She attended the nurses training program at the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. She married Budd Sharp on March 4, 1939, and in 1944 they moved from greater Philadelphia to Yarmouth, where they raised three sons. Ruth's death was 33 years to the day of Budd's passing on Feb. 24, 1984.
Ruth was a past president of the AFS (American Field Service) organization in Yarmouth and a past president of the Fortnightly Club in Yarmouth, as well as over 50 years as a member. Ruth moved to North Yarmouth within a few years of her husband's death in 1984.
True to her Irish heritage, of which she was particularly proud, Ruth was a convivial person, surrounding herself with family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed life, was blessed with a great sense of humor and a willingness to engage in a new adventure. She enjoyed every opportunity to be with her family. She also enjoyed traveling, entertaining, cooking, going out to eat, and visiting craft fairs during the Christmas season. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed visits each spring to nurseries and showing her bountiful flower gardens to friends and family.
Ruth is survived by her three sons, Ted and wife Sharon, of Cumberland Foreside; Mathew and wife Nancy, of Mount Vernon; and Jonathan and wife Belinda, of Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family is forever grateful for the loving care extended to Ruth during her time at the Hospice of the Valley in Chandler, Ariz.
Honoring Ruth's request, there will be no funeral service. Subsequent to a private interment in April at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth, there will be a celebration of her life; details to be forthcoming.
