| 4 | From the Kokomo Tribune, 6 Aug 1956, Page 2: Edgar C. Allen, 55, died at 8 p.m. Sunday at his home, 1562½ N. Webster St., where he had been ill. He was an employe of the Globe American Corp. when he became ill and attended the Assembly of God Church. Born Dec. 1, 1900, in Heber Springs, Ark., he was the son of Thomas and Mary (Butler) Allen, and spent most of his life in and around Kensett, Ark., coming to Kokomo four years ago. Surviving are the widow, Ethel, and eight children, Marie and Julie Skages, Geneva Brahic, Earlene Sink, Wanda, Francis, Thomas and Gerald Allen. There are 21 grandchildren. He leaves four brothers, Orval, Ray, Kilford and Arthur Allen and two sisters, Mrs. Susie Spears and Mrs. Ruby Hayes, all in Arkansas. The body is at the Long Funeral Home where friends may call from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday. | 5 | From The Kokomo Tribune, 18 Dec 1992, Page 6 Ethel C. Allen Lindley, 87, 3705 Tally Ho Drive, died at 5:47 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 1992, in Saint Joseph Hospital & Health Center. She was born March 17, 1905, in Pleasant Plain, Ark., a daughter of Oris and Celister (Harris) Sills. Nov. 5, 1921, she married Edgar Allen, who died Aug. 5, 1956. Lindley was a member of Cornerstone Christian Center. Surviving are two sons, Gerald allen of Kokomo and Thomas Allen of Newport, Ark.; six daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Marie) Dale and Mrs. Elvin (Wanda) Burchett, both of Kokomo, Mrs. Delmar (Jewel) Hunt of Worthville, Ky., Geneva Brahic and Earlene Sisk, both of Bald Knob, Ark., and Mrs. Donald (Frances) Thomas of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two brothers, Earl Sills of Portageville, Mo., and Olan Sills of Schererville; three sisters, Merial Kelley of Beebe Ark., Lorene Norton of Memphis, Tenn., and Buana Kirt of Dell, Ark.; 35 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren. A brother and two sisters preceded her in death. Services are 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Ellers Mortuary. The Revs. Paul Enochs and Denton Maners will officiate. | 6 | G.D. Schick Sr., City Detective Retired in '54 George D. Schick Sr., a retired Philadelphia detective, died of heart failure Tuesday, at Cherry Hill, N. J., Hospital. He was 77 and lived at 2528 S. Shields st. Mr. Schick had served on the city police force for 34 years before he retired in 1954. In 1939, he was one of five lawmen honored by The Inquirer for solving the "Arsenic Murder Ring Mystery." The ring supplied arsenic to persons seeking to dispose of their spouses and friends for insurance payoffs. Mr. Shick, who was a Navy veteran of World War I, is survived by his wife, the former Marie Farro; a son, George D. Jr.; three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Manion, Mrs. Marie Kwiatkowski and Mrs. John Grazer, and give grandchildren. A mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 9:30 A. M. | 10 | Altoona Mirror, 28 May 1948: Stroke is Fatal to Col. Anthony Biddle SYOSSET, N. Y., May 28-(UP)-Funeral service will be held at Bryn Mawr, Pa., Tuesday for Col. Anthony J. Drexel Biddle, sr., aged 73, member of the socially prominent Philadelphia banking family, who died yesterday at the home of a son here following a cerebral hemorrhage. A man of varied interests, Mr. Biddle was noted as an expert in hand-to-hand combat. He taught marine corpsmen judo and bayonet fighting in both World wars and demonstrated ju-jitsu technique until he suffered a stroke in 1944. She was born April 17, 1935 in Silver Creek, the daughter of the late Dominick and Grace (Borrello) Sack. Anne was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Silver Creek. She was an avid collector of porcelain and antique dolls. A former den mother for the cub scouts, she enjoyed home decorating. In addition, she loved being a grandmother. Survivors include her husband of 46 years William J. Gerrity; daughter Grace E. M. Gerrity (Garry Hemphill) of Forestville, NY; sons William J. (Donna) of Long Island, NY. and Patrick M. Gerrity of Atlanta, GA; three brothers, Anthony (Marie) Sack of Silver Creek, NY, John (Virge) Sack of Silver Creek and Salvatore Sack of Dunkirk; a sister, Neline (Charles) Rizzo of North Collins, NY; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Sack of Farnham and Sandra Sack of Silver Creek; her aunt, Mildred Sunzeri of Silver Creek and a grandson, Garrison G. Hemphill. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a twin brother, Patsy Sack, and a brother, Dominic Sack. Prayers will be held Monday March 14, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. from the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel in Silver Creek, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Silver Creek. | 12 | April 23, 2005 Marcia Coffey Morgan died April 23, 2005. She was born November 23, 1904, in Wellman, Iowa. Mrs. Morgan resided at Munro Road, Camillus, from 1947 to 1985, when she moved to Chapel Hill, NC. She later moved to Vicksburg, MS, where she lived until her death. After attending the University of Iowa, she taught fourth grade. A kind and compassionate woman, she always reached out to help and give to others. She was active, among others, in the Marcellus Little Theatre, the Fresh Air Fund, the United Nations Association of CNY, UNICEF and the International Center; and she was a longtime member of the NAACP. She had an abiding interest in politics and was an active lifelong Democrat. She enjoyed writing short stories and poetry, and in August 2002 won honorable mention for her entry in a national writing contest. Wanting to be of use in death as well as life, she gave her body for research to the University of Mississippi. Preceding her in death were her husband, William R. Morgan, in 1993; three sisters; and three brothers. Surviving are a son, William R. (Marilyn) Morgan of Syracuse; a daughter, Marcia Mary (Mohammad) Qasim of Vicksburg, MS; six grandchildren: Bridget, Maureen and William H. Morgan; Kalim Fleet; Amal (Peter) White; and Laila (Randy) Bradford; six great-grandchildren; a brother and a sister. A memorial service will be held at Tindall Funeral Home, 1921 W. Genesee St., Syracuse, at 2 p.m., July 9. | 21 | Bradford Era, 26 Oct 1935: Monago-Monti Nuptials Will Take Place Today In St. Bernard Church A colorful wedding will take place this morning at 8 o'clock in the St. Bernard church when Miss Linda Marie Monti, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luccio Monti of Interstate parkway becomes the bride of Libby Monago, son of Mrs. Peter Monago of Lewis Run. Rt. Rev. Monsignor David F. Hickey, rector, will read the marriage service and say the nuptial mass. Miss Armenia Monago, a sister of the bridegroom, will be maid of honor and Nick Monti, a brother of the bride, will be best man for Mr. Monago. Miss Josephine Monago of Lewis Run and Miss Margaret Suffoletto of Buffalo will be bridesmaids. John Monago and Herman Di Vittori of Ridgeway will be ushers. Patricia and Betty Monago of Jamestown will be flower girls. A program of wedding music will be played by Miss Monica Henretty, organist and Fred Rossi, soloist, will sing several selections. The bride will wear a white satin wedding gown, entrain, fashioned on princess lines. Her long tulle veil will be fastened to her head with pearls. Her flowers will be an arm bouquet of white roses. The maid of honor will wear a pink velvet frock with matching accessories and carry yellow roses. Miss Suffoletto will wear a burnt orange velvet gown and carry Talisman roses. The flower girls will wear pink and nile green frocks and strew rose petals in the bride's path. A wedding breakfast will be served afterward at the home of the bride's parents for the bridal party. A wedding reception and dance will be given in the Mutual Aid society hall in Lewis Run. | 22 | Bradford Era, 26 Oct 1944, page 2: Sgt. John Monti Wounded Again Staff Sgt. John E. Monti, of Custer City,first engineer and gunner on a B-24 Liberator bombers, has been wounded the second time in World War Two according to a telegram received by his wife, Mrs. Monica Monti, from the War Department yesterday. The telegram stated "regret to inform you that your husband was seriously wounded in the Southwest Pacific area on October 3. You will be advised of reports concerning his condition as soon as received." The telegram also gave an hospitalized address. Sgt. Monti was first first reported wounded in action on July 3rd in the Southwest Pacific area also. At that time he received shrapnel in his leg and after being hospitalized he was returned to active duty. The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Monti of Custer City, Sgt. | 23 | Bradford Era, 30 Oct 1944, page 3: S/S J. E. Monti Dies of Wounds Custer City Resident Wounded Twice on South Pacific Duty Mrs. Monica Monti of Olean, N. Y., formerly of 208 South avenue, Bradford has received word from the War Department of the death of her husband, Staff Sgt. John E. Monti, jr., who died in a hospital on Moratai Island on Oct. 4, a day following wounds received in action. Mrs. Monti received a telegram recently from the War Department informing her that her husband had been seriously wounded for a second time in the Southwest Pacific area on Oct. 3. Sgt. Monti had previously been wounded in action over Yap Island. Sgt. Monti left Bradford in March 1943. He received his basic training at Miami Beach, Fla. He was graduated from Aeroplane Mechanic school at Gulport Field, Miss. He received his sergeant's rating and Silver Wings upon graduating from Aerial Gunnery school at Laredo Army Air Field, Laredo, Texas, in December of 1943. After a short furlough enroute which he spent with his wife and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Monti, sr., of Custer City, Sgt. Monti left for Fresno, Calif., where he was assigned to a bomber crew. Later he was transferred to Monroe Field where he was stationed until sent on overseas duty on April 1, 1944. Sgt. Monti was first engineer and top turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber. He had received the Air Medal for meritorious service and bravery. Shortly afterwards he was promoted to staff sergeant. He also was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received July 3, 1944 in action over Yap Island and was presented a Presidential Citation for outstanding achievements in the line of duty against the enemy. Overseas, Sgt. Monti had been stationed at Guadacanal, Admiralty Islands, New Guinea and in the Netherland East Indies at the time of his death. He had completed 30 bombing missions. | 24 | Bradford Evening Star and Daily Record, 15 Jan 1940.-Monago Rites are Wednesday Prominent Lewis Run Woman Dies at Home After Lengthy Illness Funeral rites for Mrs. Concetta Monago, 74, widow of Peter Monago, of Lewis Run, will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a. m. at her home and at 9 o'clock at St. Bernard church. Burial will be in St. Bernard cemetery. Mrs. Monago died last night at 11:30 o'clock at her home of a heart ailment after a year's illness. She had been in a serious condition for six months. One of Lewis Run's most prominent women residents, Mrs. Monago had lived there since 1897. Born in Italy, she came to this country as a young woman. She had many friends. She was a member of St. Bernard's church of this city. Her husband, Peter Monago, a well-known Lewis Run merchant, died 12 years ago. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Dominic DiVittorio of Ridgeway, Mrs. James Suffoletto of Lackawanna, N. Y., and Miss Armenia Monago of Lewis Run; two sons, Dominic, of Buffalo, and Lebe, of Lewis Run; a brother, Peter Leone, of Lewis Run; a sister, Mrs. Dominic Grilli, of Franklin, and 19 grandchildren. | 25 | Bradford Evening Star and Daily Record, 17 Jan 1940.-Mrs. Peter Monago Funeral services for Mrs. Peter Monago, who died at her home in Lewis Run Sunday night, were held this morning from the home in Lewis Run at 8:15 o'clock and at 9 o'clock from the St. Bernard church. Msgr. David F. Hickey, pastor, celebrated a solemn requiem high mass, assisted by the Rev. Alfred Bauer of Mt. Jewett, deacon, and the Rev. G. Carlton Ritchie, subdeacon. Joseph Allegrette acted as master of ceremonies. The boys' choir song, under direction of Clayton Brenneman, organist. Pallbearers were Anthony Curcio, Noey Franco, John DiFonzo, Joseph DiFonzo, John Wozer and Sam Benedict. Interment was made in the family lot in the St. Bernard Cemetery. | 26 | Bradford Evening Star and Daily Record, 29 Feb 1928.-Peter Monago of Lewis Run Dies Suddenly The sudden death of Peter Monago, a well known resident of Lewis Run and proprietor of a general store at that place, occurred at 10:45 o'clock this morning at the Bradford hospital, to which institution he had just been taken a few minutes before. The sick man had just been removed from the stretcher to the bed when he expired. Mr. Monago had been ill with heart trouble and a complication of ailments for a number of weeks. For six weeks past he had been receiving treatment at the Columbus hospital in Buffalo, and came home yesterday, although a very sick man, as he wished to see his family. Last night his condition became much worse and it was decided to remove the patient to the hospital this morning. He was taken to that institution in Koch's ambulance. Mr. Monago was hemorrhaging from the right lunch when he was taken into the hospital, and it was this hemorrhage which caused his death. Deceased was aged 62 years and was well known throughout this section. He was a good and public spirited citizen and was instrumental in organizing the Lewis Run band and had a great deal to do with all celebrations of a civic nature held in his home town. Deceased was a member of St. Bernard's church. It will be remembered by all who recall that terrible influenza epidemic that prevailed in Lewis Run many years ago that Mr. Monago gave of his strength and time in helping combat the terrible contagious disease. He was of the greatest help to all nurses and workers during the epidemic and his good works in that respect will live long in the memory of the workers. | 27 | Bradford Evening Star and Daily Record, 3 Mar 1928.-Many Attended Last Rites for Peter Monago Funeral services in memory of Peter Monago, a well known resident of Lewis Run, were held this morning at 8 o'clock at the home and at 9 o'clock at St. Bernard's church. A solemn high mass of requiem was celebrated by Rev. David F. Hickey, Rev. Andrew Quirk and Rev. Charles Ward. James Bracaccini sang solos and the children's choir, the mass. Many were present at the services to pay last tribute to the memory of the deceased who was well known throughout this entire section. The Lewis Run Mutual aid society attended the services in a body. When the body was removed to St. Bernard's burial ground, the funeral procession was led by the Citizen's band which played a march. Following the band marched the members of the Aid society of Lewis Run, then three large funeral cars, filled with beautiful flowers. The hearse came next, followed by a large number of cars, bearing relatives and friends of the deceased. The body was placed temporarily in the Hanley mausoleum until the new part of the cemetery is completed. At the mausoleum a ritual was said by the Mutual Aid society. | 28 | Brandon E. Ellingson, 20, of Clive tragically passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. Brandon was born December 7, 1993 in Des Moines to Mr. & Mrs Ellingson. He graduated with honors from Valley High School in West Des Moines and currently attended Arizona State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Epsilon Fraternity. Brandon was pursuing a degree in business entrepreneurship, while working with his father at Glacier Properties. Brandon was proud to be a part of the Des Moines Capitals for four years; he was captain for two of those years. Brandon had a passion and love for playing football. Brandon was fortunate enough to be a part of two state championship teams; 2008 Des Moines Capitals Hockey team and 2011 Valley High School Football team. After high school, he continued to maintain an enthusiasm for fitness and healthy living. Brandon had a kind heart for people and animals, especially his beloved dog, Benji. He will be remembered for his love of life and his contagious smile, which left those around him smiling as well. Those cherishing Brandon's memory include his parents; sister; grandparents many other extended family members and friends. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 5 at Valley Church, 4343 Fuller Rd., West Des Moines. Monago died Saturday (Nov. 24, 1990) in the Bradford Ecumenical Home. He was a 1933 graduate of St. Bernard High School and an Army veteran of World War II. Monago was a member of St. Bernard's Church; LaStella Lodge, Italian American Club; the Italian Mutual Aid Society of Lewis Run, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Olean, N.Y. Cheryl?s son Christopher was always first in her life. She lived and loved her life on earth with strength, integrity and determination. She enjoyed the challenges her lifetime career presented her in the Banking Industry, and was greatly appreciated by her customers she served. Her Part time job at Pier 1 Imports satisfied her creative decorating talents. She was passionate about gardening, the tropics and enjoyed relaxing in the sun. Cheryl passed away after a very long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. At the family?s request, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Chautauqua County Hospice. He was engineer of the pumping station of the Susquehanna Pipeline Company, at Icedale. | 35 | Chester Times, 28 Nov 1939, page 1: LINWOOD MAN, 66, KILLED BY TRUCK William Gesner, 66, of 1408 Huddell avenue, Linwood, was killed at 6:10 o'clock last night when he was struck by a truck as he walked along Ridge road, about 100 feet east of Congoleum avenue, Linwood. He was pronounced dead at Chester Hospital, where he was taken by a motorist, Howard L. Perry, of 163 Harvey avenue, Linwood. Death was attributed to a fractured skill and internal injuries. The truck driver, Benjamin A. Fallin, Jr., 21, of 22 Ridge road, Trainer, was arrested by Linwood Patrolmen Kerchmer and Bothwell and was held by Magistrate Arthur F. Wolfe pending action of the coroner. The owner of the truck is William Nickles, of Trainer. Mr. Gesner was a member of one of Delaware county's oldest families. He was born in Ridley township on the old Leedom Farm, on Chester pike above Ridley Park. He was the grandson of the late George D. Gesner, a farmer for many years at Norwood. he was also a first cousin of the late Judge Isaac Johnson, of the Delaware county courts, and also a first cousin to the late Thomas Gesner, who was a brick manufacturer in Philadelphia. For 20 years he was roundhouse foreman at the East Side roundhouse of the Baltimore & Ohio railroad, in Philadelphia, and was a member of the Brotherhood Relief Association of the Baltimore & Ohio railroad. Two months ago he was held up while walking on the highway near his home in Linwood and was robbed at the point of a pistol of $75. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary F. Gesner, who lives at 6524 Gesner street, Philadelphia, which is named for the family, and one daughter, Mrs. George F. Ward, of the Linwood address. Bartram Helms, life-long resident and for seventeen years a prominent contractor of the city, died at 11:05 p. m. yesterday, following a short illness, at his home, 523 West Sixth street. He was taken ill last Tuesday with a severe cold which developed into pleurisy. He was a member of the Bricklayer's Union, of this city, and while a contractor built many of the larger sewers in the city. In recent years he had been employed at the American Steel Foundries here. He was also a member of the old Trinity Methodist Episcopal church, but had been attending the First Baptist church for the last few years. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alice S. Helms; three children, two sons, Isaac Helms, of Chester, and Frank Helms, of Wilmington, and one daughter, Mrs. Ida Osborne of Philadelphia. He is also survived by two brothers George and Edward Helms, both of Chester. The funeral services will be held at 1 o'clock on Thursday afternoon from the residence at 525 West Sixth street, next door to his home, and interment will be in the Chester Rural cemetery. Rev. | 39 | Clement P. Piscitelli, 'The Hugger', of Langhorne, Middletown Township died Sunday, March 5, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was 95. Born in Lewis Run, McKean County, Pa., he was a resident of Middletown Township since 1959. He was a self-employed accountant and tax preparer, having graduated from Peirce School of Business Administration (now Peirce College) in 1948. Mr. Piscitelli was a 1940 graduate of St. Bernard High School, Bradford, Pa. He was a veteran of the United States Army, enlisting in January 1941 and honorably discharged in June 1945 as a master sergeant, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He volunteered in his community as well. Over the course of 10 and half years, Clem served on the School Board in a variety of positions, most notably as Treasurer for the Neshaminy School District. He also served on the Bucks County Technical School Board. He was a long time member of the Middletown Township Bucks County School Authority and the Lower Bucks County Neshaminy School Authority. He was affiliated with the Langhorne Cub Scouts and Boy Scout Troop #21 as well. He has been a member of the Langhorne Lions Club since 1971 acting as president, treasurer and other line officers. He was active in the Middletown Republican Committee and participated in many political campaigns to elect responsible Neshaminy School Board Members. In addition, he was active with the Neshaminy Education Foundation by providing supplemental resources for the educational experiences of children in the district and as a member of the Bucks County Technical School's commitment to the future of the youth and adult residents of Lower Bucks County. Clem was the beloved husband of 68 years to Liz (Elizabeth Miller). He was the loving father to Tom and his companion, Pam, Jeff and his wife, Sue, Lisa and her husband, Patrick, Anne, and Peter and his companion, Christine. He will be deeply missed by 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Clem was preceded in death by nine of his brothers and sisters and will be sadly missed by his remaining sister, Louise, as well as many nieces and nephews. | 40 | Coatesville Record February 24, 1955 As a result of complications and a fractured hip, Alice D. Mowday, wife of George W. Mowday, of 309 Strasburg avenue, Parkesburg, died yesterday in Coatesville Hospital. She was in her 85th year. Mrs. Mowday suffered a fall at her home a week ago and was admitted to the hospital for an operation on her hip. However, she did not recover sufficiently for the operation to be performed. Deputy Coroner Thomas Monteith, on investigation issued a certificate of death due to natural causes. Mrs. Mowday was born in Ireland and came to this country at the age of six years. She worked for many years as a seamstress for Mrs. Sarah Ross. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Parkesburg, and the Good Cheer Bible Class of the church. For a number of years she taught Sunday school at Hopewell Presbyterian Church. Surviving her in addition to her husband are: a daughter, Helen, wife of William Herd, of Parkesburg; nine grandchildren; a niece, Ella Mall, of Pomeroy; a nephew, John Whitely, of Downingtown. Cindy worked as an accountant for Fred Myers & Associates for over 30 years. Her life was her children and the time she spent with her family and friends. She was a faithful, long-time member of the Presbyterian Church, of this place, and her greatest efforts in church activities were in the Missionary Society, to which she remained a conscientiously faithful long after she was unable to attend the meetings. She was a woman of kindly disposition, always disposed to do a good act and enjoyed the esteem of all who knew her. The following children survive her: Jennie, wife of Wm. Hartranft, and William, of Coatesville, and George, of this place, with whom she lived. The services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. W. Potter VanTries, of the Presbyterian Church, who spoke of the kindly attributes of the deceased. Mrs. John Ross Owens, Mrs. C.K. Hallowell and H.C. Miller sang "Asleep in Jesus". The Church Circle sent a beautiful floral tribute and a wax wreath:chrysanthemums and other flowers were sent by friends. The pall-bearers were chosen by the deceased woman four years ago during a revere (sic) illness and served with one exception, the absentee's place being filled by another. The bearers were: Sanford Mowday, John Wallace, John Clarke, J.A. McEvoy, Hiram Strop and Walter Hartranft. A remarkable feature of the funeral was the presence of Mrs. Mowday's surviving twin sister, Mrs. Margaret Stauffer, of Reading, now in her 81st year. Bates, 76, manager of Works Engineering of Westinghouse Electric Corp., Lester plant until his retirement in 1954, died Wednesday night at his home, 300 Glebnlock Road, Ridley Park. Mr. Bares after his retirement was a professor in the engineering department at Pennsylvania Military College. He was president of the board of directors of Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park. He served as a director of the Elmwood Savings and Loan Association of Philadelphia and Ridley Park and was a former member of the Ridley Park School Board. He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute of Blacksburg, Va., where he received both a bachelor and maters degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following his graduation he served in the American Expeditionary Forces as a captain during World War I. Mr. Bates was a member of Col. C. C. Pierce Post 649 American Legion of Ridley Park, The University Club of Ridley Park, National Honorary Engineering Society, Tau Beta Pi National Society of Professional Engineers and was a Fellow in the American Association for the advancement of Science. He was elected to the Board of Taylor Hospital April 15, 1935 and was named president on June 16, 1952. He is survived by his widow, the former Martha Darlington Helms; a son William H. of Gradyville; a daughter, Mrs. Donald F. Bruce of Wallingford, a sister, Mrs. Neville R.
